Position Description:
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic engineering team. As a Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in the design, development, and testing of hardware components for our innovative projects. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Drive designs from concept to mass production, focusing on functionality, reliability, manufacturability and cosmetic requirements.
- Support the development of several platforms based around classical and quantum photonics as a mechanical engineer.
- Create and publish detailed 3D CAD and 2D drawings for designs including GD&T, material selection and manufacturing methods.
- Collaborate with external vendors and internal teams such as electrical, operations, photonics and product to deliver product.
- Participate in the prototyping and assembly of products and proof-of-concept models. Soldering work will be present.
- Work closely with senior engineers to implement design changes and enhancements.
- Maintain accurate documentation of design changes, test procedures, and project progress.
- Prepare reports summarizing findings and recommendations for review by the Hardware team.
Required Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor of Science (BS) or Master of Science (MS) in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design or related field from an accredited university.
- Minimum 1-2 years of full-time experience in the design and correlation of mechanical components including: plastic or metal parts, mechanical assemblies, printed circuit boards or flexes.
- Experience with using CAD tools such as Solidworks, NX or Creo, and PDM tools such as Solidworks PDM, Windchill (Solidworks and SolidworksPDM experience is preferred)
- General technical knowledge in multiple manufacturing methods used in consumer products such as 3D printing, urethane casting, injection molding, sheet metal, CNC machining etc.
- System integration experience, including electro-opto mechanical components (Optics, lens, Motors, Mirrors, translation stages etc.), heat transfer and product architecture.
- Familiar with product development cycles
- Experience working with manufacturing vendors and suppliers
- Ability to work in startup environment.
- Technical knowledge in general materials.
- Able to lift weights up to OSHA limit (50 lbs.) when required (occasionally).
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented.
