Position Description
Quantum Computing Inc. (QCi) is seeking an experienced Senior Application Scientist to join the Department of Tomorrow, a multidisciplinary team focused on innovation, invention, and future product design. This role is centered on developing algorithms and novel applications for QCi’s quantum photonic computing technologies, spanning optimization, quantum computing, and photonic-assisted AI.
The successful candidate will work closely with QCi’s technology and engineering teams to accelerate adoption of next-generation computational solutions across academia, industry, and government. This role also partners with business development and customer-facing teams to translate advanced research into real-world impact through technical support, application development, and thought leadership.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Identify high-impact application areas where QCi’s current computing products can deliver immediate value.
- Design and develop algorithms, workflows, and use cases for existing and future quantum photonic computing systems.
- Explore and evaluate novel computing architectures that improve performance, efficiency, and scalability.
- Contribute to algorithm–hardware co-design by identifying scenarios where photonic implementations offer clear competitive advantages.
- Publish and present research results in leading journals, conferences, and technical forums.
- Support business development, sales, and product teams by providing technical expertise and customer-facing support.
- Collaborate with technology and engineering teams to inform the design and development of next-generation hardware platforms.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in Physics, Optics, Mathematics, or a closely related scientific or computational field.
- Deep expertise in one or more of the following areas: optimization, quantum computing, AI/ML.
- Strong background in mathematical modeling, numerical methods, and simulation.
- Proficiency in scientific programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, and/or C++.
- Demonstrated research excellence with publications in respected peer-reviewed journals.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across interdisciplinary teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with quantum information science, quantum algorithms, or emerging computational paradigms.
- Hands-on experience running quantum computing workloads and/or advanced AI models.
- Prior industry, government, or academic R&D experience in quantum technologies and/or AI.
- Experience mentoring junior researchers or contributing to collaborative, cross-functional research teams.
