Compensation Specialist

The Compensation Specialist will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of compensation programs, including base pay, bonuses, equity awards, and bi-monthly payroll support. This individual will play a critical role in supporting annual compensation cycles, new hire offers, equity administration, payroll coordination, and market benchmarking, while helping to standardize and document compensation and payroll-related processes.
Compensation & Equity
- Administer company-wide compensation programs, including base salary, incentive compensation, and equity (RSUs and stock options)
- Support annual and off-cycle compensation reviews, including data preparation, analysis, and implementation
- Conduct market pricing and benchmarking using compensation surveys (e.g., Aon Radford or comparable sources)
- Partner with HR leadership on offer development, promotions, adjustments, and internal equity reviews
- Support equity administration processes in collaboration with external vendors (e.g., E*TRADE, equity administrators)
- Maintain compensation data, documentation, and audit-ready records
- Assist in developing, documenting, and improving compensation policies, guidelines, and workflows
Payroll Support
- Support bi-monthly payroll processing in partnership with HR, Finance, and the payroll provider
- Prepare and validate compensation-related payroll inputs, including new hires, terminations, salary changes, bonuses, equity income, and retroactive adjustments
- Review payroll reports for accuracy and resolve discrepancies related to compensation and equity earnings
- Coordinate with Finance and Payroll on payroll tax reporting, W-2/W-2c reporting, and other compensation-related filings
- Ensure payroll practices align with compensation programs, internal controls, and compliance requirements (including SOX-related controls, where applicable)
Cross-Functional Partnership
- Partner with Finance, Payroll, and external advisors to ensure accurate tax treatment and reporting of compensation and equity
- Respond to compensation- and payroll-related inquiries from HR leadership and people managers
- Support audits, reconciliations, and internal reviews related to compensation and payroll processes
- Bachelor’s degree
- 3–6+ years of experience in compensation, payroll, HR, or total rewards
- Hands-on experience supporting payroll processing, preferably bi-monthly payrolls
- Working knowledge of equity compensation (RSUs, stock options) and related tax considerations
- Experience with compensation surveys and market pricing methodologies
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and process orientation
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism
- Experience in a publicly traded company or SOX-controlled environment preferred
